The final Truth and Reconciliation hearings end in Edmonton, Alberta

The final day of the 7th National Truth and Reconciliation Hearings brings to a close an epic five year journey. I honour all those survivors and descendants of survivors and their amazing courage in sharing their stories. I honour the dedicated Commissioners whose deep listening and attention to every detail and the smallest nuance, through hours and days and weeks and months and years, never wavers. I honour all those whose work supports this vital undertaking. And I’m beyond grateful to have been there these last few days and to have learned so much. There are many whose dedication to truth and healing has taken them to every national event. They deserve incredible respect and gratitude.

About Makere

A transplanted New Zealand Scots/Maori academic/grandmother/random singer and sometime activist, my life is shaped by a deep conviction of the necessity for active critical engagement in the multi-faceted global and local crises of being and survival of species that confront us in the 21st century, the urgency of re-visioning the meaning of thriving together, and the contribution of Indigenous knowledge systems to a truly sustainable and just global society.
